"AGILEAN’s approach to Lean Office gave us the tools to better leverage the strengths of our organization." (more...) Jane White Vulliet, CEO, Camp Fire USA The Lean Office Toolbox Lean Office is an umbrella term for a powerful combination of techniques to optimize the value of information. These techniques all build on each other in such a way that the total result is greater than the sum of the individual parts. The following is a partial list of tools found within AGILEAN's Lean Office Toolbox: Ø Balanced Scorecard ― Provides the answers to three basic questions for management 1) are we doing the right things, 2) how are we performing today, and 3) are we correctly positioned for the future? The leading and trailing indicators of the balanced scorecard also help establish service level agreements to govern the flow of work. Ø Continuous Flow ― Improves productivity by creating a continuous flow of work through the organization. Emphasis on a team approach, establishing a common tempo to the work, eliminating batches and queues, balancing loads, and segregating complexity. Ø ISO 9001:2000 ― Specifies requirements for a quality management system for any organization that needs to demonstrate its ability to consistently provide a product or service that meets customer and/or applicable regulatory requirements. Ø Policy Deployment ― A top-down approach sometimes called hoshin planning. Policy deployment enables an organization to react to strategic policies as a single interdependent system. Ø Seven Wastes ― When asked to define the cause of poor quality, most people mention errors or defects. Defects are only one of seven wastes that rob value; and it is the hardest one to reduce. Dramatic improvements to quality do occur when employees are trained to reduce the other six forms of waste. Ø Six Sigma ― Applied to the office environment, it improves productivity by reducing variability within value streams, technologies, and organizational responsibilities. Ø Theory of Constraints ― Streamlines operations by focusing on end-to-end throughput, not individual efficiency. Seeks to identify bottlenecks and provide alternatives for their elimination. Ø Values & Principles ― An approach to align the strategies and outcomes of the organization with day-to-day decision making. Values provide the strategic what and principles supply the everyday how. Ø Value Stream Mapping ― A method to visually define the flow of work within and between organizations. Enhances visibility of the stakeholder value being created, the resources required, and the measures to monitor, manage, and motivate.
